All Arena components are manufactured specifically and solely by
SMP for use as a ball court surround. They are not utilised components
from any other purpose such as dog grids, security fencing or industrial
flooring.
Safety is a key factor. Arena is designed to discourage climbing
and only round section steel is used. All Arena posts are manufactured
from structural grade steel. Each post is 88.9mm diameter with a
4mm wall thickness and is finished with a smooth finished dome top.
All fixings are stainless steel and have tamper resisting 'torx'
heads.
Arena's special panel positioning system allows for height adjustments
to be made to side panels that can accommodate a maximum fall of
1:40.
SMP's colour coating finish is guaranteed for 5 years. All Arena
components are
first galvanised by coating with hot, pure zinc spray. Second, a
zinc rich epoxy primer is applied and lastly a highly durable top
coat of coloured polyester power is applied to achieve a minimum
film thickness of 120 microns. The resulting finish has been tested
and certified to meet a minimum 1500 hours hot salt spray test to
ASTM B117. This is a vigorous test and ensures the product has excellent
corrosion resistance, even in costal and equatorial climates.
Mesh panels are fabricated from 6mm diameter solid steel wire.
This is fully welded at every cross point and is guaranteed for
5 years. All SMP Arena panels have undergone repeated impact testing:
Ball Impact resistance of 50kg from 350mm height, for 1000 cycles
and user foot impact resistance of 50kg from 500mm height, once.
Our bespoke lower bar panels offer low rebound noise levels and
prevent users from climbing the panel frames. Our bar panels have
undergone testing and development to improve the rebound qualities.
Since the initial launch of Arena we have reduced the spacing and
introduced additional bars to gain the optimum rebound effect while
retaining the bar style preferred by many of our clients.
Our basketball ring is fixed through the backboard into a steel
support beam behind and not onto the backboard itself, making it
virtually impossible to bend the hoop. The basketball ring has been
tested with a 240kg loading with no permanent deformation.
